Charity Bike Holiday, Morocco - The Details

Sat 28th March to Sat 4th April 2009 ~ The Details

Cycling in the mountainsLa Bergerie, OuirganeHigh Atlas, from near AsniCycling in the mountains

28th MARCH
Arrive in Marrakech and settle into Riad Deville for the first of 2 nights right in the heart of the Marrakech Medina.
29th MARCH
Optional early morning cycle around the Palmeraie and the new town of Guéliz.
A.M. Guided tour of the Medina and the sights of Marrakech.
P.M. Optional free time or another exploratory tour of the environs of Marrakech on your bikes.
30th MARCH
The real cycling begins for those that wish. We will at all times have vehicle back up.
We start by driving out of Marrakech and, depending on how far people want to cycle, we will be dropped off at different points. The first part is in undulating country side running along the edge of the Atlas mountains. The cycle will end by descending into the Ouirgane Valley to stay the first of 3 nights at La Bergerie, a pleasant rustic country Auberge with swimming pool and large gardens.
31st MARCH
Either cycle to Imlil (approximately 30km of uphill cycling), or be transported by Land Rover. Lunch will be on the roof terrace of the Kasbah “with the best rooftop views in North Africa”.
Then cycle or freewheel back down to La Bergerie, perhaps stopping of at Sir Richard Branson’s Kasbah Tamadot for afternoon tea!
1st APRIL
Cycle an undulating road along the River N’fis valley to the mosque of Tin Mal and then onwards up the Tizi-n-Test pass. For the really serious cyclist (if we have any!) there will be the option of cycling all—or the majority of—the Tizi-n-Test pass at 2100m. Return to La Bergerie for dinner. Of course on either of these days it is possible to just opt out and laze by the pool at La Bergerie.
2nd APRIL
Bikes and riders will be transferred by vehicle to the Ourika Valley, a drive of approximately 1 hour, where there will be the choice to either cycle up to Oukaïmeden, the Moroccan ski resort (2600m), or be transported there in our vehicles. Night at Chez Jus Jus, an alpine Auberge.
3rd APRIL
Cycle or free wheel back to Marrakech for the final night in a 4* hotel. A special gala dinner will be taken at Dar Marjana with all the Moroccan trimmings to end this spectacular tour.
4th APRIL
Tour ends (extra days can be arranged).
